CROHN’S DISEASE Crohn’s Disease is a chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal (â€Å"GI†) tract that can occur anywhere along the alimentary canal from the mouth to the anus. It is the second most common form of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (â€Å"IBD†) after Ulcerative Colitis and can be hard to distinguish from it due to the overlapping signs and symptoms. They are not, however, the same. With Crohn’s Disease the inflammation most often occurs in the small intestine at the end of the ileum and continues into the beginning of the colon, but inflammation may be found in multiple places along the digestive tract at the same time with normal, unaffected areas in between the distended areas. The two most common types of fistula are the Perianal which goes from the rectum to the skin around the anus; and the Enterocutaneous which goes from the small bowel to the abdominal wall. Other common forms of fistula are the Retrovaginal which goes from the rectum to the vagina, Colovesical which goes from the large bowel to the bladder, and the Enteroenteric which is bowel to bowel. The symptoms of Crohn’s Disease can range from mild to very severe depending on the area of the gastrointestinal tract involved. When a patient’s disease is active, as opposed to being in remission, the most common signs and symptoms of GI inflammation related to Crohn’s Disease are: persistent diarrhea; rectal bleeding; abdominal cramps and pain, which can vary in intensity and may lead to vomiting; an urgent need to move the bowels; the sensation of incomplete evacuation; constipation, which can lead to bowel obstruction; blood in the stool; and mouth sores. Other general symptoms of IBD that can also be associated with Ulcerative Colitis as well as many other diseases, are: fever; loss of appetite; weight loss; night sweats; signs of malnutrition from the digestive tract not being able to properly absorb needed nutrients; anemia; and feeling tired. Sammy, the teenage cashier in John Updike’s AP is a seemingly quiet character. He seems to put up with his boss, Langel, make conversation with his co-worker Stokesie, and deals with sheep for customers every day on the job. On the outside looking in he seems like an average teenager in the 1950s, but inwardly despises and questions the society around his life. It seems that he will never speak his mind. That is, until one day when three girls his age walk into the AP grocery store in bathing suits. This small change in routine is enough to throw Sammy off and change his life from hereafter. Natural Rubber : This include all material made from containing Latex. Natural rubber is made by two processes, the natural rubber latex process (NRL) and dry natural rubber process (DNR). NRL process This involves the use of natural latex in a concentrated colloidal suspension. Dramatic tension up in the play Essay An Inspector Calls was written in the mid-1940s following the Second World War. At the time it was a highly successful play, and whilst times and social morals have changed, it remains to this day entertaining and thought provoking. Its success can be viewed as largely related to the tension that grips the audience in ways similar yet also dissimilar to a horror movie. Instead of using typically over-exaggerated shock, Priestley has used confrontation and emotionally dramatic tension to create suspense that appeals to the audience. This play has numerous similarities to a who-done-it style play and also clearly resembles a morality play. Priestley has adhered to a strict structure when writing An Inspector Calls. He has used the three unities of time, action, and place, which originate from Greek literature. An Inspector Calls also bears resemblance to Scribes idea of a well-made play, crafted to arouse suspicion, suspense and tension. Scribes idea includes beginning with an exposition, entrances and exits timely placed to create tension, an obligatory scene, and acts ending at a moment of high tension. An Inspector Calls meets all of these points. One important thing to remember when watching this play is that these characters are not people. Instead they are dramatic devices through which Priestley shows his views. The play opens with brief descriptions of the characters. We find out their relationship to each other and a few other small pieces of information, but very little is given, as it is clearly irrelevant. The opening of the play is perhaps deceptive. It opens with a happy party scene portraying a typical blissful family without any problems or secrets. No sign of the later crimes are apparent, although in retrospect we can spot hints of unease and disruption. Tension is first felt between Sheila and Gerald as slight undercurrents. This is purposely unobvious and can be seen as early as page three, in particular during stage directions such as half serious or trying to be light and easy. The play becomes of real interest to the audience when An Inspector Calls. The Inspectors arrival adds tension as he is unexpected and his business is a mystery to all members of the family. His manner is very formal and direct. At the time the Inspector would have been considered very rude. Id like some information, if you dont mind Mr Birling. Where other people would perhaps feel awkward or reluctant, the Inspector appears not to feel this at all- he is unaffected by Mr Birlings mannerisms and authority. During the 40s, society was clearly affected by social status and position. Mr Birling tries to use this to support his actions, but Inspector Goole dismisses any attempts. This in turn adds to the tension felt. There are many contrasts in the play; between guilt and innocence, or the merry party scene that is followed by grim interrogations. Using contrasts such as these allows Priestley to create tension by showing complete opposites- truth and lies (between Gerald and Sheila), happiness and sadness, or the differentiating views between young and old. Another feature used throughout the play is dramatic irony. This is used most during Act 1. As the play is set in 1912, Priestley has been able to use dramatic irony. Mr Birling talks about the Titanic as unsinkable, absolutely unsinkable, or of World War One, saying, Youll hear people talking about war as inevitable. To that I say- fiddlesticks. As the play was written in the 1940s we, the audience, know for certain that the Titanic did sink and that there was not one, but in fact two world wars. Many advise against the coming of a Wal-Mart to their town, arguing that it will only bring negative consequences to the economy, but most of their pleas to stop Wal-Mart are thoughtless. On the contrary, Wal-Mart is a positive force sweeping through the United States generating town growth, new jobs, customer traffic and increased tax revenues. Wal-Mart is great for the economy in that it brings competition to other competitors and it drives out the weak businesses that were only hindering the growth of their local economy. Wal-Mart is an effective catalyst for change. Its expansion leads other business competitors to retool their own operations and become more competitive, thus increasing and feeding the economy. Some of these anti-Wal-Mart communities have led to the denial of building permits for Wal-Mart in their towns, ultimately leading them to move somewhere else. Stopping a Wal-Mart from entering your town is a poor decision. The Wal-Mart that is driven away will most likely move-in somewhere close by. National studies show that hosting a Wal-Mart is much more beneficial for towns than being in the vicinity of one. The store would compete with other national chains in the area, having a negligible impact on locally owned downtown businesses. Tips for Posture - Don't Sit on Your Wallet Heres an ergonomic tip to immediately improve your posture and alleviate nagging back pain. We are taught from an early age that wallets go in your back pocket. Thats a bad, bad thing. Its almost as if the clothing designers are in cahoots with the wallet manufacturers to make sure thats where they go. The only problem is that a wallet in your back pocket hurts your posture and can cause back, neck, and shoulder pain. Standing up the back pocket is a fine place to stow your wallet. But when you sit down you start an avalanche of body mechanic problems. When one cheek is higher than the other you end up twisting the pelvis. This is bad enough but it doesnt stop there. The spine becomes misaligned. Then your shoulders slump. And you really start to hurt after that. The healthiest option is to move that wallet to your front pocket. If you must keep your wallet in your back pocket you should remove it before you sit down. Maybe even get one of those snazzy wallets with the chain so you dont forget it. You should also keep your wallet as thin as possible. Even when it is in your front pocket a smaller wallet will be a benefit.
